The short explanation of this alert was:
This fall, we have a critical opportunity to protect and improve air quality in more than ten national parks in the American Southwest, including Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde National Parks. And, we need your help.
These national parks regularly experience haze resulting from pollution sent up by two coal-fired power plants--the Navajo Generating Station and Four Corners Power Plant. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently accepting comments on how to control the pollution from these plants to improve air quality and visibility over the parks. These parks are supposed to be among the cleanest in the country and most protected under the Clean Air Act.
Send your comments today to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. Tell her that her agency must protect air quality in our national parks. Deadline for submitting comments is October 28, 2009.
