We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit NPCA.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Recently, NPCA scored a landmark victory in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which invalidated a land exchange needed to proceed with the massive Eagle Mountain landfill--a proposed garbage dump surrounded on three sides by Joshua Tree National Park's wilderness. However, this amazing victory doesn't completely stop the landfill from being built.

If approved, the Eagle Mountain landfill would degrade the things this crown jewel was set aside to protect--clear night skies, broad desert vistas, and healthy populations of wildlife like tortoises and bighorn sheep. We think that Joshua Tree National Park is just too important to sacrifice for a garbage dump, and that's why we've been fighting the Eagle Mountain landfill for more than a decade.

Now that the courts have ruled, it's time to clean up the Eagle Mountain situation once and for all. Send a letter now to Department of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and encourage him to make the protection of Joshua Tree National Park a higher priority than this garbage dump.
