Urge President Biden and Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, to expand Joshua Tree National Park and establish Chuckwalla National Monument through use of the Antiquities Act.

For decades, NPCA has worked to protect the Greater Joshua Tree landscape. Joshua Tree National Park is a world-renowned region, characterized by wide-open vistas marked by iconic Joshua trees, yucca, rare rock formations and outdoor recreation.

The proposed Joshua Tree National Park expansion would restore the 17,000 acres that were removed from its landscape in the 1940s, while the Chuckwalla National Monument would preserve over 600,000 acres between Joshua Tree National Park and the Colorado River.

Make Joshua Tree National Park whole again.

I support the effort to expand Joshua Tree National Park and designate Chuckwalla National Monument and join the many supporters calling on you to use the Antiquities Act to protect this area of the California Desert.

In the face of threats of climate change and habitat loss, this would be a huge victory for protecting critical wildlife habitat, promoting equitable access to nature and preserving our rich cultural history in the California desert.

I support this proposal to:

•	Protect biodiversity, wildlife habitat and wildlife migration corridors, including the threatened desert tortoise, desert bighorn sheep, burrowing owls, golden eagles and more
•	Protect the many rare and sensitive plant species and rare old-growth woodlands essential for carbon sequestration and migratory bird habitat
•	Honor the cultural landscape and homelands of the of the Iviatim, Nüwü, Pipa Aha Macav, Kwatsáan, and Maara’yam peoples (Cahuilla, Chemehuevi, Mojave, Quechan and Serrano nations)
•	Preserve significant prehistoric and historic archaeological resources, including sacred sites for Native American Tribes and historic World War II sites and other areas with historical significance

Expanding Joshua Tree National Park will also help ensure more equitable access to nature for local communities and enhance outdoor recreation such as hiking, camping, wildlife watching and stargazing, supporting local economies while preserving this unique park landscape for future generations.
