The clock is ticking for Congress to act, so it needs to hear from millions of Americans right now to prevent budget cuts to our parks and communities. There’s a lot at stake for national parks. National parks have been struggling for decades, operating with fewer staff and smaller budgets to sustain soaring park visitation and address the worsening effects of climate change. Park staffing has eroded by 20% since 2010, while at the same time parks have experienced a 16% increase in visitation. Previous budget decisions have led to reduced ranger-led programs, undermined efforts to protect resources, left maintenance needs unaddressed, and compromised visitor experiences. Ultimately, this hurts our irreplaceable resources, and the more than 300 million visitors who visit them each year will be the ones to pay the price. Now is the time to invest more in our parks, not less. Urge members of Congress to work together to reinvest in these special places that mean so much to so many people.
For every dollar Congress invests in the Park Service, more than $15 is generated in economic activity. Investing in parks is a win-win for their future, visitors, and local economies that depend on them.
