Tell Congress: Say NO to Ambler Road

Despite widespread national and Tribal opposition, a Senate provision is attempting to force the Ambler Road forward. Tell Congress to STOP this threat to Alaska Native communities, waterways and wildlife in one of America’s largest intact and roadless landscapes.

I am part of the outpouring of Americans who have continued to speak up for this landscape that includes one of our nation’s most important, intact park landscapes - Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.

I am writing to urge you to oppose any efforts to push through the Ambler industrial mining road including in the budget or national defense bills.

This road would cut across lands and rivers that Alaska Native communities have relied on for generations—for food, culture, and survival. More than 90 Tribes and First Nations have come out in opposition to this project. So have hundreds of thousands of Alaskans and Americans across the country. In fact, during the federal review process, 82% of in-person public comments opposed the road. The Bureau of Land Management ultimately rejected it because of its clear harm to people, wildlife, and water.

There have already been multiple attempts to sneak approval of this harmful project —ignoring Tribal consultation, science, and public input. That’s wrong. This is not a budget issue nor would it assist in national defense. It’s a speculative boondoggle, a road to speculation. It’s a clear attack on our environmental laws, national parklands, and Indigenous rights.

Alaskans and Americans have continued to speak up against this road. Please hold the line and stand with Americans, with Alaska communities, stand with Tribal sovereignty, and stand with the public. I urge you to resist any attempts to revive the Ambler Road.
