Stop Bulldozing in Big Bend.

Federal government contractors bulldozed through one of our country’s iconic national parks, Big Bend National Park, part of the administration’s destructive plan to build new border barriers and paved roads in this wild place. West Texas communities, precious park wildlife, and recreational access are all at risk. Following public outcry from park advocates like you, the government has temporarily paused construction in Big Bend.

Keep the pressure up – we need a permanent halt to all border construction in Big Bend. Urge your senators, your U.S. representative, and Governor Greg Abbott to ensure border construction in Big Bend stops – for good.

I oppose Customs and Border Protection’s plans to build physical border barriers, roads and related infrastructure  through the Big Bend region, including a significant portion of Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Building vehicle barriers and paving new roads through Big Bend National Park would harm park wildlife, intensify flooding risks, and could even put recreational access points at risk. It would inflict irreparable damage to one of our country’s most iconic national parks. Customs and Border Protection already maintain a presence in Big Bend, given its status as a borderland park, and the current system is not presenting undue burdens on the park. Building physical barriers here makes no logistical sense and only serves to harm the region’s wild scenery and thriving community-based tourism economy.

Harsh desert conditions and unforgiving mountain terrain already form natural barriers along this portion of the border. Please reach out to the Trump administration and secure border solutions in the Big Bend that don’t destroy this treasured national park.
