Protect the future of Zion National Park

Visitors love Zion National Park for its breathtaking canyons, hanging gardens, and wildlife like bighorn sheep. But the land around Zion matters, too, and makes this entire landscape unique.

Local communities have repeatedly raised concerns over development encroaching on the park, risking wildlife habitat and the visitor experience. The best way to protect Zion’s future is to ensure the public land around it remains in the hands of the public, not sold off piece by piece.

Once public land is transferred or sold off or developed, it’s changed forever.

Urge Congress to take immediate action to protect the future of our national parks and public lands by opposing legislation that would sell off public lands, including those bordering Zion National Park.

As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to protect the future of our national parks and public lands by opposing legislation that would sell off public lands, including those bordering Zion National Park.

The reconciliation language passed by the House Committee on Natural Resources includes the transfer of thousands of acres of public land in Utah and Nevada, including over 300 acres directly adjacent to Zion.

If approved, this land would lose public land protections and could then be sold off, opening the door to luxury housing, hotels, or other high-impact development that could change the land forever. This public lands sell-off language must be removed from this and any other legislation moving through the House.

Zion is one of America’s most iconic national parks, visited by millions each year for its awe-inspiring canyons, hanging gardens, and wildlife like bighorn sheep. Yet, local communities have repeatedly raised concerns over encroaching development that risks dividing up wildlife habitat and harming air quality, watershed management and the visitor experience.

Public lands should remain in the hands of the public. Our public lands represent a natural and cultural heritage that cannot be replaced. Once that public land is sold off to be developed, it’s gone forever. If Congress allows the auctioning of public lands next to Zion, no public lands are safe from future sell-offs.

Please stand with the American public and protect our shared lands, to preserve Zion and all national parks for future generations.
