As mandated by law, national parks tell the full story of America. That’s why President Trump’s executive orders are so chilling. This administration is attempting to remove people and places that shaped America. From removing content and webpages highlighting the contributions of women, Black historic figures, and members of the transgender community that came before us, to eliminating educational and historical resources that help teach millions of people about our shared American history. This administration has even suggested transferring smaller national park sites, including historic sites, to states rather than seeing their national significance.
President Trump’s executive orders add to the pressure this administration is putting on the National Park Service to interpret American history in a positive light, knowing that America’s history includes war, tragedies and struggle.
Erasing history is the opposite of what the National Park Service has stood for since it was founded more than a hundred years ago. Urge Congress to reject efforts to erase or rewrite our nation’s history.
