Stand Against Any Further Cuts to Parks

At midnight on Tuesday, the federal government will shut down unless Congress passes a funding bill. Workers across the country will be furloughed. Many government functions will grind to a halt. National parks – already pushed to the brink – will be forced to get by with even fewer staff and resources.

Even worse, the administration is threatening another massive round of firings. It’s no exaggeration to say that the next few weeks could see national parks left without the staffing, funding and support they desperately need -- permanently.

Congress has only a few hours left to prevent a government shutdown and keep parks protected. Send a message right now and tell them that park lovers want to keep the government open and our parks staffed.

As your constituent and supporter of our national parks, I urge you to prevent a government shutdown and fight back against continued efforts to gut the National Park Service.

We’ve seen the deep damage past shutdowns have meant for national parks. Irrespective of the approach each administration has taken, visitors’ vacations were compromised or ruined. Local businesses in gateway communities suffered losses. Park staff were unable to do their jobs protecting resources and serving visitors and didn’t know when their next paycheck would be.

Making matters worse, during the last shutdown, the Interior Department recklessly used fee revenue to keep parks partially open with skeleton crews of staff. Resources were damaged and public safety was put at risk as a result.

Our parks and people can’t afford this. Please do everything you can to help get a short-term funding bill passed, and moving forward please support the Senate version of the FY26 Interior appropriations bill, which rejects the deep funding cuts that are in the House version.
