Urge Congress to Oppose Cuts to the National Park Service Budget and Staffing

Lawmakers have until January 30, 2026, to reach a long-term spending agreement to fund our national parks so they can remain open, staffed and protected.

Although Congress passed a funding bill to end the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history, park staff and visitors may face another shutdown in just a few weeks since much of the government is only funded in the short term.

Even before the shutdown, the Park Service had already lost more than 25% of its permanent workforce since January, severely straining its ability to care for our nation’s most treasured places.

Despite the mounting impacts to parks, court-ordered documents revealed Secretary Burgum’s plans to slash thousands of positions at the Department of the Interior, including hundreds of National Park Service staff.

Nobody asked for reckless cuts to park staffing or the gutting of our shared heritage. Nobody wants this.

Urge Congress to oppose any cuts to the National Park Service budget and staffing.
