Call Your Senators: National Parks are not for sale.

Senator Mike Lee wants to strip away protections that prevent national parks from being sold.

If the Senate votes in favor of his amendment, it will send a green-light message to the White House that they can auction off America’s national park legacy to the highest bidder.

Tell your senators to vote NO on Lee Amendment #3972 and stop the national park sell-off NOW.

National parks play a critical role in preserving our natural resources and our collective history and contribute significantly to their local economies. For every $1 spent on parks, they give back $15 to the economy. Selling off national parks would devastate our communities and the resources they protect while taking away places millions of Americans visit every year.

National parks belong to all Americans. They shouldn’t be political pawns, and they shouldn’t be for sale.

Across party lines,  Americans want park stories, landscapes, wildlife and histories preserved. In fact, Americans agree that we need to conserve more of these places, not undermine, dismantle and silence the ones we have.

Never called your senators before? No worries! Here are some suggested talking points to use when calling your elected officials:

Sample Talking Points

Hello, My name is______. I’m from_____ (town/state).

As your constituent, I am urging you to vote NO on Mike Lee’s amendment 3972 to the Interior Appropriations Bill. National parks are not for sale.

Senator Lee’s amendment would send a green-light message to the White House that it’s OK to sell America’s national park legacy to the highest bidder.  It’s not OK.  It’s a terrible idea.

National parks belong to all of us. They should not be political pawns. We are weeks away from the 250th anniversary of America. We should be celebrating our national parks, not selling them.

Now is the time for you to speak out. National parks need your help. Thank you.
