Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument is one of the most extraordinary landscapes in the American West—renowned for its scientific discoveries, rich cultural history, diverse wildlife, and sweeping red rock vistas. It forms a vital ecological and cultural link between Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Glen Canyon, while protecting water supplies for over a hundred local watersheds and contributing to Utah’s multi-billion-dollar recreation economy.
However, this incredible landscape is facing an unprecedented threat—members of Congress want to throw out the monument’s recently completed management plan. If overturned, it would create immediate uncertainty for the future of the monument’s 1.9 million acres, the surrounding national parks, and the people and wildlife who depend on this landscape.
Other national parks like the Grand Canyon, Canyonlands and Joshua Tree also rely on the national monuments that border them to protect the connected landscapes. We must ensure that Grand Staircase-Escalante and national monuments nationwide continue to be managed through a thoughtful, public, science-driven process. Urge Congress to vote NO on H.J. Res.151 and S.J. Res.109.
This unique place deserves lasting protection.
