Stop border wall construction in the Big Bend region.

The Trump administration has proposed building a physical border wall through the Big Bend region, threatening fragile ecosystems, beloved visitor destinations, and the cultural and economic fabric of West Texas.

The Big Bend area sees some of the lowest unauthorized border crossings in the nation, and experts agree that less damaging approaches—such as existing technology-based solutions and improved interagency coordination—can meet security needs without destroying landscapes that local communities, Tribal Nations, and park lovers deeply value.

Big Bend deserves protection, not permanent scars. Urge Customs and Border Protection to defend this iconic park, support West Texas communities, and ensure that border security measures don’t destroy the very places we cherish.

I am writing to express my objection to the construction of border wall infrastructure in the Big Bend region of Texas. The Big Bend area is one of the most ecologically and culturally significant landscapes in the United States. It includes fragile desert ecosystems, important wildlife corridors, and communities that depend on the natural character of the region. 
 
The proposed border barrier system in Jeff Davis,Presidio, Hudspeth counties that includes a portion of the Big Bend Ranch State Park poses serious risks to the Big Bend region, wildlife migration, particularly for species that rely on the Rio Grande corridor for movement, water, and habitat. The Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem that surrounds Big Bend is globally unique and deserves careful stewardship. 
 
In addition to environmental concerns, the wall could negatively affect the cultural and economic fabric of the region. Big Bend communities depend heavily on tourism, outdoor recreation, and the preservation of open landscapes that attract visitors from around the world. Large-scale infrastructure could permanently alter the scenic character of the area and undermine the sustainable economic activity that residents rely on. 
 
There are also significant questions about whether a physical wall is the most effective or responsible approach to border management in this remote region. Alternative strategies—such as advanced monitoring technologies, improved coordination between agencies, and targeted personnel resources—may achieve security objectives while avoiding irreversible damage to public lands and wildlife habitat. 
 
I respectfully urge U.S. Customs and Border Protection a halt to physical wall construction in the Big Bend region and to prioritize solutions that balance border security with environmental protection, cultural preservation, and the long-term interests of local communities.
