National parks are home to more than 600 threatened and endangered species. For decades, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has been the strongest, most effective tool we have to keep these species from disappearing forever. Now, some in Congress are proposing to weaken this critical law.
A bill in the U.S. House of Representatives could politicize how species are protected, sideline decades of sound science, and allow more endangered species to be killed or harmed. If passed, it could allow industrial development and infrastructure projects to be fast-tracked through essential wildlife habitat — inside and around our national parks — with devastating consequences.
These proposed changes to the ESA could mean degraded parks, fewer visitors, lost tourism revenue, and fewer tools for land managers to protect America’s most at-risk wildlife. Urge Congress to defend the ESA and reject any effort to weaken its protections.
