Preserving National Parks Forever

For five years, dedicated maintenance funding through the Great American Outdoors Act supported critical repairs, improved safety and strengthened local economies nationwide. However, the funding has expired, and that progress is at risk as repair needs continue to grow. The Park Service has lost nearly a quarter of its workforce since January 2025. Without sustained funding and staffing, the future of our parks is in jeopardy.

The America the Beautiful Act will ensure substantial federal funding continues to address the deferred maintenance backlog that has reached more than $23 billion. This bill would provide an additional $6.6 billion over five years to address our parks’ crumbling roads, decaying buildings, outdated drinking and wastewater systems, and many more critical repair needs. Urge your representatives to cosponsor this bill.

I write as your constituent to applaud the success of the Great American Outdoors Act in fixing national park infrastructure, and to urge you do everything you can to support the America the Beautiful Act to extend that funding. I enjoy visiting our national parks and want to ensure they are protected for generations to come.

Extending maintenance funding makes sense for the preservation of our parks and to ensure everyone has a great experience. It also helps bolster the local businesses outside our parks that depend on these places. The protection of our nationally significant historic sites and fragile park ecosystems also need these investments.

The Great American Outdoors Act has led to hundreds of projects to repair national parks, contributing billions to the national economy and creating tens of thousands of jobs. Visitor centers, water systems, roads, campgrounds and more have been receiving needed restoration and reconstruction thanks to this fund. But the authority for this funding has expired. Thankfully, the bipartisan America the Beautiful Act would extend the fund for another five years across federal lands including the National Park Service.

Please support H.R. 9250, America the Beautiful Act and work with the Senate to pass a bill that fixes our national parks and keeps them accessible and welcoming for all. Thank you for considering my views.
